Joy M. Collier, DDS

Dentist & Practice Owner

Dr. Collier is passionate about being a truly great dentist in every possible way—from pursuing clinical excellence through advanced continuing education, to caring for each patient with kindness, understanding, and compassion. She believes that exceptional dentistry is about more than creating beautiful, healthy smiles; it is about building relationships, listening to her patients, and helping them feel comfortable and confident in their care.

Her journey into dentistry began somewhat unexpectedly. Dr. Collier originally thought she would become a dental hygienist, but after just a few days of training chairside as a dental assistant, she quickly realized that dentistry was the perfect career for her. Due to her outstanding academics and involvement in dentistry, she applied to two dental schools without having acquired her bachelor’s degree first and was accepted to her first choice—the rest is history! More than 20 years later, she still feels becoming a dentist was one of the best decisions she ever made. She especially values the flexibility and fulfillment dentistry has provided throughout her career, as it allowed her time away from the office to raise her two daughters.

Education & Experience

Dr. Collier grew up in Muskegon, Michigan, moving to California at age 19, where she eventually attended San Jose State University. She was granted early admission to the prestigious University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2002. UoP Dugoni is routinely ranked as one of the top three clinical dental schools in the nation.

Throughout her career, Dr. Collier has had the opportunity to care for patients in several parts of the country, including Virginia Beach and Washington State, before ultimately making Arizona her home in 2007. Dr. Collier quickly fell in love with the warmth, sunshine, and community of the West Valley and has been proud to call Arizona her home ever since. She joined Desert Vista Dental West in 2009 and soon became one of the practice’s owners. Today, she is the sole owner of the practice and takes great pride in creating an environment where patients receive excellent care while the entire team feels appreciated, supported, and connected.

Dr. Collier is committed to lifelong learning and regularly pursues advanced continuing education so she can bring the latest techniques, technology, and treatment options to her patients. She has completed extensive advanced training through Spear Education in Scottsdale, a highly respected center for continuing dental education, and continues to learn from some of the most respected clinicians in dentistry.

Dr. Collier has been Invisalign® certified since 2005 and has extensive experience providing clear aligner therapy. She believes Invisalign® offers her patients an excellent option for achieving healthier, more confident smiles in a discreet and comfortable way, and maintains it is the best clear aligner therapy option for her patients.

Dr. Collier has also incorporated dental laser technology into her practice since 2007, using this gentle approach for procedures such as gum recontouring, particularly in cosmetic cases. Her continuing education has included a strong focus on CEREC® technology for same-day crowns, cosmetic dentistry, and comprehensive rehabilitative care. She enjoys combining advanced technology with an artistic eye to create natural-looking results that complement each patient’s individual smile.

Another area that has become an important part of Dr. Collier’s practice is dental sleep medicine. For more than a decade, she has helped patients who suffer from sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders. She is an active member of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy (ASBA), an organization dedicated to advancing education and excellence in dental sleep medicine. Dr. Collier regularly participates in advanced sleep medicine education taught by leading specialists in the field so she can provide knowledgeable, comprehensive care to patients who may benefit from oral appliance therapy.

Throughout her career, Dr. Collier has been recognized for her commitment to dentistry and patient care. She has been nominated multiple times by her peers as a Top Dentist in Phoenix Magazine in both the Cosmetic and General Dentistry categories and has also received national recognition for dental excellence.

For Dr. Collier, however, some of the most rewarding aspects of dentistry aren’t the awards or accomplishments—they are the relationships she has built with her patients over the years and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their health, confidence, and quality of life.

Life Outside the Office

Outside of the dental office, Dr. Collier enjoys spending time with her husband and their six adult children, who range from college students to working adults. She and her husband are their children’s biggest fans and love attending their college sporting events, supporting their accomplishments, and watching them grow into successful young adults.

When she’s not at the office or cheering on her family, Dr. Collier enjoys traveling, playing golf, working out, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She especially loves finding time to travel and experience new places with the people she loves.

Dr. Collier is also a lifelong dog lover and has rescued three dogs over the years. She and her husband currently share their home with a Weimaraner and an Australian Shepherd mix who keep life at home just as busy and fun as life at the dental office.

After more than two decades in dentistry, Dr. Collier remains just as enthusiastic about her profession as she was when she first discovered that dentistry was the right path for her. She feels incredibly fortunate to have built a career centered around helping people, surrounded by a team she considers family, and caring for generations of patients in the community she is proud to call home.
